A Practical Approach to the Integration of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Treatment

Substance abuse and mental health issues must be treated together.  As a licensed therapist (LMFT) with an advanced certification in addiction counseling (LAADC) and EMDR trained, I work with what is commonly referred to as “co-occurring” or “dual diagnosis” issues.  Depression, Poor Stress Tolerance, PTSD, Anxiety, Bi-Polar, etc., are treated concurrently with the substance abuse issues. For good results it is important to be competent in both these arenas. By blending my experience, understanding, and knowledge in the mental health and chemical dependency fields I am able to do just that.

In addition to my private practice I am the Clinical Director/ Co-Founder at Vaya Addiction Services as well as an Adjunct Professor at the University of San Francisco teaching graduate level courses in the Marriage & Family Therapy program.
